Step-by-Step: Create a WiFi QR Code
1. Enter Network Details
Fill in the form fields:
- Network name (SSID) — Type your WiFi network name exactly as it appears on your router
- Password — Enter the WiFi password (leave blank for open networks)
- Encryption type — Select your network's security from the dropdown:
- WPA/WPA2 — Most common for modern routers (select this if unsure)
- WEP — Older encryption standard
- None — Open network (no password required)
- Hidden network — Toggle this on if your network doesn't broadcast its name
2. Generate the QR Code
Click the Generate QR Code button. Your QR code appears immediately on the page.
3. Download or Copy
- Click Download to save the QR code as a PNG image file
- Click Copy to copy the code to your clipboard for pasting into designs
Where to Display Your QR Code
- Welcome guide — Include in your printed or digital guest guide
- Fridge magnet — Print on a magnet for easy kitchen access
- Framed card — Place a framed QR code on the nightstand or desk
- Entry area — Mount near the front door so guests can connect immediately
Tip: Print the QR code at least 2 inches (5 cm) square for easy scanning. Add a label like "Scan to connect to WiFi" so guests know what it does.
How Guests Use It
Guests open their phone camera (or Google Lens) and scan the QR code. The code now opens a branded landing page on their phone with the network details, then:
- On Android, deep-links straight into Wi-Fi settings so the guest can tap to connect.
- On iOS, copies the password to the clipboard automatically — the guest pastes it once in Settings → Wi-Fi.
This eliminates the most common guest question: "What's the WiFi password?"
What Else the Landing Page Can Do
Beyond the basics, the landing page has three optional capabilities:
- Email capture (Weekend Host or higher) — Ask the guest for their email in exchange for the password. Builds a list of past guests for repeat-stay marketing.
- Upsell cards (Weekend Host or higher) — Highlight nearby restaurants, tours, your own services, or anything else you want guests to discover the moment they connect to WiFi.
- White-label (Pro Host) — Replace the Hostmatic branding with your own logo and remove the platform footer.
Configure these from the WiFi page editor on the same tool screen.
Tips
- Update if you change your password — Generate a new QR code and replace the old printouts
- Test it first — Scan the code with your own phone before giving it to guests
- Use a guest network — Consider setting up a separate WiFi network for guests to keep your main network secure
